Recently (5-6-12), I dropped by a Starbucks in Bellevue, and saw this pretty Tazo tea poster:
I like product posters that display a certain romance of the product.
I think it is a challenge for a brand as large as Starbucks to create interesting signs and marketing materials, but it can be done. Probably someone at Starbucks worries, “Will people get it if the message is subtle?” “Will we offend someone if we use unusual images?” Take a look at this old 1997 poster, which I wrote about last year: Coffee First poster. That is a brave poster. There is no way one could just swap another brand name on it and have it make sense.
The above Tazo poster dates from 2008, so it really isn’t all that old. It looks like it was intended to be displayed inside Starbucks during January 2009. That makes sense too. In January 2009, Starbucks was promoting new tea drinks such as the Tazo London Fog, Tazo Chai Infusions, and the Vanilla Rooibos Tea Latte. The way the color and the images are put together on this poster, it has a certain tea romance. It pulls you in and makes you think, “Which one of these teas is for me?” Here’s the date on the bottom right corner of the poster:
And you might be asking yourself, “Where is this poster hanging now?” I found this poster hanging in the women’s restroom of a Starbucks in Bellevue, Washington! (It was actually store #303, along N.E. Eighth Street.) I happened to have my camera with me, and snapped a couple of photos!
Hope you like this poster as much as I do. By the way, if you want more articles on Tazo tea, I have a category of Tazo articles here.

$30.00 Starbucks gift card drawing:
I’ve done a number of contests on this blog, and I’m still working on trying to make them as smooth as possible! I signed up at RandomPicker.com which is an online random drawing picker site. In the past, I’ve literally filled out little cards and put them in a bag, and then pulled out a name.
I’d like to experiment with RandomPicker.com, which means I have to have a contest. In order to enter this contest, you have to leave a comment that says what your favorite Tazo tea is. Grand prize is a $30.00 gift card to be selected at random. All comments must be received by June 7, 2012 at 11:00 p.m., PST. The comment must be actually on the blog – an email to me is not an entry. All entrants must be over 18. No more than one entry per person. I will count up to the first 75 valid entries, and after that, no further entries.
Don’t assume that because there are 75 comments that the contest is over. I’ve learned from experience that with all the conversations that happen in the thread that there will be a number of comments that are not valid entries. I’m not sure if I’m going to have to type in entry names one by one into the RandomPicker.com, so I am limiting this to the first valid 75 entries. And the winner – picked at random – wins a $30.00 gift card. The winner must have a valid address in the U.S., Canada, Australia, Ireland, or the U.K. There will be only one grand prize winner.
Your entry must indicate your favorite tea at Starbucks. It is fine if you mention a seasonal Starbucks offering like the Joy tea, or limited test tea, like the iced peach green tea test.
Good luck!

Does the Peaches & Cream Tiazzi count?
If not, my favorite is the Iced Blueberry White Tea. I make something close by icing the Berryblossom White Tea.
Sorry Melody, I can’t help you with this one. I have never tried a Tazo Tea, though I do occasionally have an iced black tea on a hot summer afternoon. I am curious though, how well RadomPicker works for you.
Melody it is wonderful that SB has put up an old poster and it is a shame it is in the ladies room rather than on the floor. Besides my favorite green tea at SB, I also enjoy either Earl Grey or Awake.
I really like the vanilla rooibos tea and Zen tea hot, and the passion tea iced. Which one I choose depends on the time of year, really.
Mint blend is the best mint tea I have ever tried! Perfect blend of spear and pepper mints that isn’t too overpowering but is great on a cold day !
I enjoy a blend of Refresh and Calm. I also enjoy during the summer an iced green tea lemonade with matcha.
I love Refresh– but my absolute favorite thing to do is mix refresh with calm… Mmmmmm….
I was thinking about coffee but now I’m thinking about tea 🙂
Though I love chai I’d have to say that the Tazo Passion tea is my favorite
iced. I’ll be taking some with me to work now lol – gotta go! 🙂
My Wife and I really like Tazo’s Joy Tea, so much so that I have to buy her a year’s supply each Christmas Season (and I had better be sure to have enough 😉 ).
Melody, I hope RandomPicker works out for you.
Definitely the Refresh tea!
I love iced passion tea!
definitely the Awake tea. I’ve got a steamingcup in front of me right now!
Two favorites for me. Refresh is great when I’m feeling a little under the weather, stuffed up, and/or a sore throat. Earl Grey is the other and is simply a classic. You can’t go wrong, tea or tea latte, it is a classic for a reason.
My favourite is Green Tea or the Iced Passiontea, those are two of my go-tos no matter what!
My favorite is the China Green Tips I had at the Atlantis Marina Village on Paradise Island, Bahamas. They even made a mean latte with it, though I prefer it most straight and hot. 🙂
My favorite is definitely the awake tea, just something about it being called awake already makes me feel refreshed when I drink it.
I love to make calm and passion tea double strength and pour it over a trenta cup of ice! Delicious!
I liked the Tazo Peach Green Tea drink when I tried it and I usually order Black Tea Lemonade as the black tea has more flavor and is a stronger brew. I drink the Tazo Black Tea at home too.
Cool poster and thanks for the contest.
Oh man, I have to pick! I would say joy for a plain tea, and the peach iced tea lemonade for iced…and chai tea latte for daily!
My favorite is Tazo Refresh. It’s the best!
My favourite is the berryblossom white tea!
Have to go with Vanilla Rooibos
The TAZO vanilla rooibos tea is always a treat, plain or as a latter.
I LOVE Earl Grey tea. I had never had any type of tea until 2008, when a friend ordered a London Fog for me, and I was in love!!
My favorite TAZO is the chai – though I have to admit I have only had it as a latte never in the bag. I would be interested in the vanilla rooibos tea latte as it sounds like it has similar qualities to chai. I am not at all a connoisseur of teas, I had been experimenting with hot teas (in bag form) but they have all been bland to me. The chai latte has been the most flavorful I’ve had….maybe because it’s a concentrate??
The Tazo Chai, of course!
I like Awake in the morning and Calm in the evening
I really like that old school poster! It looks like the old art deco and art nouveau styled poster from the early 1900’s. I wish I could have it on my wall.
I am a total Green Tea fanatic in the summer….BUT I do not like the Zen Green Tea that they always have premade for Iced Green Teas. I order (but get the vibe most baristas do not like when I do this…Time Consuming) a China Green Tips Iced Greentea. So they brew the China Tips then pour over a lot of ice. I just like the clean taste of the greentea without the lemongrass & spearmint that the Zen has in it. It’s my favorite summer drink aside from when the Lime Refreshers will be relaunched this summer. I loved it from last years test.
My favorite tazo tea is refresh without a doubt. I always have a box at home and in work because it’s what I would call the perfect mint tea, It’s minty without being overly minty. As someone who often has stomach issues, I find that if I have stomach pain and drink a cup of Refresh, it often helps,
I’m not a huge hot tea drinker, but I like to use my Mr. Coffee Iced Tea pot to make iced tea with the Tazo Wild Sweet Orange.
Oh, just found your blog yesterday (while perched on the wifi at my local Starbucks), I’m enjoying reading your entries and the comments and discussions!

I LOVE the old marketing media Melody – thanks!
My favorite Tazo Tea (right now) is Refresh as I have been a bit under the weather. Refresh tea is a life saver!
I find Passion Tea (No water, No sweetener) to be my favorite.
Clean, refreshing, perfect anytime…no caffeine!
Thanks Melody! You are awesome.
My favorite Tazo has to be the Chai. However, I am an avid green tea drinker. I prefer the hot teas in winter, especially the holiday specials. In summer I’m totally for iced teas, especially green.
Love reading your Seattle Starbucks posts because they are different from what I have here in Iowa. Like the mothership! Favorite Tazo tea? Passion. But I like them all.
Have you looked at using RaffleCopter for contests? Many bloggers use it.
I am a BIG fan of Black tea with a splash of lemonade!
I’m a fan of tazo earl grey black tea. Makes me feel that I am Jean Luc Picard on Star Trek: the Next Generation.
Mambo!!! Though I haven’t seen it around for a while ;-(
I absolutely love Tazo Earl Grey Tea. I love it more than the coffee. Add a little half and half and some raw brown sugar and I’m good to go. It’s how I start my day.
I absolutely love Tazo Earl Grey Tea!! Add a little bit of half and half and some raw brown sugar and I’m good to go. I love it more than the coffee. It starts off my day in a good way. Love the bergamot in it!!
My favorite is the Earl Grey Tea, even though I usually order coffee while at Starbucks.
Hi Melody,
My favorite Tazo teas are the Giant Peach Iced Tea and the Chai!
hello Melody
I like the Wild Sweet Orange Tazo. or when I can find it the Brambleberry bottled.
I hope all is well!
I like Awake and Joy teas.
vanilla rooibos tea, amazing as an unsweetened latte!
I love vanilla rooibos as my hot tea! Or an iced venti no classic green tea.
The boys & I love Tazo Zen tea. We drink it hot & cold, sweet and not. We even take it on vacation with us.
my favorite tazo teas are focus, thrive and rest – all part of the well being line that i WISH was sold at starbucks!!!!! i finally found all three at my local target, but prior to that i was ordering them online.
Berryblossom white is my favorite prior to the full-leaf change over. If it needs to be in the current lineup, then Calm is my favorite. 🙂
My favourite tea at Starbucks is definitely the Matcha Green tea latte (or frappuccino no whip)! But I like most of the other tea drinks as well, including Chai, Joy, Earl Grey…
