One week from today, you’ll be able to buy a tumbler from Starbucks that allows you to refill it in January with espresso beverages. The tumbler officially goes on sale the day after Thanksgiving, offered that Friday at a sale price of $65.00. The price goes up to $75.00 after that day. The official press release is here: Starbucks Invites Customers to Share the Spirit of the Season. (I’ve heard stories of stores putting the tumbler out early, but it is not supposed to be available until the day after Thanksgiving.)
I’ve had a number of people Facebook message me, or email me about this tumbler, so I thought that would put a spotlight on it. Everyday in January, you can refill this tumbler with your favorite Grande-sized espresso beverage, including seasonal holiday beverages, such as the Gingerbread Latte, Eggnog Latte, and more. As I understand it, you’re only supposed to get one free drink each day with this tumbler.
When discussing this with Starbucks partners, I haven’t gotten a clear answer about whether you can get Clover-brewed coffee free in the tumbler.
When you are making your plans for the Friday after Thanksgiving, now you know you need to get to Starbucks early to get one of these!
Enjoy!

This is a amazing deal and pretty stoked that I’ll be working overnight into Black Friday at 4am so I can pick one up on my way home. I may even buy one for my sister’s Christmas present. 🙂
A month’s worth of beverages is alot of stars…I don’t know that I’m crazy about giving up my reward points.
I am their best customer on this type of deal! I wish it was a venti drink size though. 😉
I love this! It was always disappointing that the tumblers in the past were only for brewed coffee. At $65, it would pay for itself after about 15 days for my skinny vanilla latte. I understand Lori’s disappointment about not getting stars for it, but think 16 free days of drinks is pretty spectacular! Thanks for sharing Melody!
I actually do more drip than espresso drinks so I’ll pass on it this year. If it is like the past, there is no way to track how many uses you could get, so you could really customize drinks and run up the bill, whereas with the previous drip tumbler the worst you could do is add an extra shot or syrup. I may resell the tumbler, if I happen to get it, but otherwise I’ll pass.
So if I go in and grab a refill using this tumbler and buy a food item like a bagel or breakfast sandwich or a second drink I would still receive a star for my visit, correct?
You would still get a star for any other perchance that are made while filling up your cup, like a bagel or breakfast sandwich. There will still be a drip tumbler this year, so those of you who like drip won’t be left out, don’t fret! As for clover, I have not seen any official word but I would assume that it wouldn’t ring up the discount for the free beverage but “just say yes”…
This tumbler is $75 in Hawaii (although the drinks are more expensive too).
The tumbler is for espresso drinks only (no brewed coffees, teas, Frappuccinos…although, you’ll probably find some baristas will make an exception to this rule.). It’s supposed to be for one grande beverage a day, but there’s no way to keep track.
My store received *two* of these tumblers. Good luck to anyone out to get one on black Friday! Check your store’s hours!
I’d rather have a brewed coffee tumbler this year but great savings for those who can use it. The brewed tumblers were available for quite some time last year.
I am so excited about this. It will take me 15 days to recoup my investment and everything after that is pure excitement! Challenge accepted! 🙂
CA Starbucks are already selling the Espresso drink tumblers. All sold out at most stores since most only got 6 each and they went to “special customers”….
@KatP – That’s kind of disappointing to read. Stores are really NOT supposed to have the special tumblers out yet. I think every store is going to be out by the day after Thanksgiving. 🙁 I hope I can get one too. And, they’re really not supposed to save them for special customers.
This cup is a big hit, customers continue to ask how are we going to track weather they get one beverage a day or 20 I really don’t have a response, maybe next year starbucks will think this one through. We have totaled just one cm and it’s like 130 dollars in free beverages at one beverage a day for 31 days. WOW
I got one of their drip coffee travelers last year. LOVED it! Who could argue with free coffee after the price of the cup was met?
I hope to grab one before they sell out.
Can you say WANT w/a capital W? It is nice to see that I can possibly reserve one, will certainly be on the hunt for it that is for sure. But the thought they’d sell out before I could save on that extra $10 on BF is a bit of a bummer. :-/
The press release specifically states it will be online at starbucksstore.com. So for a few bucks in shipping (offset by the cash back rewards from your favorite shopping portal) you can get it without waiting in line. Just remember to hit that refresh button.
I already have mine…can’t wait to use it!! As for the rewards points @lori…assuming you bought one latte per day every day for the month of January you would spend $150 (approximately) for 31 drinks but you would only get 2 free drinks from that (31 stars is what you would earn)…so in essence you would be paying $150 for 33 drinks…with the tumbler you are paying $75 for 31 drinks!!! (Or $65 if you get it on Black Friday). The tumbler is a MUCH better deal. I do wish that they had offered a cheaper version for just brewed coffee like they had last year because some people don’t drink the espresso drinks and lots of people can’t afford $75
My local SB had them out right at the full holiday launch. They disappeared after a week or so, I just figured they sold them, but I guess they just took them off the display.
You can always ask to see if the store can order one for you. The barista at my SB where I’m a regular said that they would be able to order one for me if they ran out.
The launch for the $30 Coffee only is Dec. 9
@KatP – Only within in the past several days did I realize that there will be a coffee-only tumbler again too. That’s an important one to write about too – Hoping to find an image of it soon. 😉
I visited other stores in the area the first day of the holiday launch and several had these tumblers already out. I let the baristas working know and they removed them right away. I think it’s a neat idea but I hope we get clarification on what drinks are accepted. Do hot chocolates, steamers, and chai drinks count? What about those people if their drinks don’t count? And when can we start offering great promo items and deals for those tea and iced coffee drinkers? Last year I was so disappointed there were no tea offers. I almost always get iced tea or iced coffee and I know I’m not alone. If we’re going to start saying tea is just as important as coffee…where do we start? Just a thought…
Also, for those interested, there will be a coffee refill tumbler like last year too. Can’t remember the release date. I suggest looking online and avoiding the heartache of trying to get this stuff in store (see PSL Swarovski tumbler and ornament).
Does anybody know what all will be offered during 12 Days of Christmas this year? I can’t find it anywhere
@Michelle, Starbucks decided to forgo the 12 Days of Christmas this year. I would hazard a guess that too many people complained about having too little notice about what was to be offered each day and the likelihood of a store being sold out of that object by the time a customer got there was high. Also, the labor involved on the partner side for setting up and breaking down each day was too much to be worth it. I think both parties ended up disappointed. And, maybe even some customers complained because it placed too much emphasis on “Christmas” when a lot of SBUX customer base doesn’t celebrate the holiday.
So, for this year, they decided to do the Gift of the Week to allow customers more chances to get that promo item or discount they wanted. Started Nov 12 and runs through the week of Christmas. Hope that helped.
Anyone have a list of what is being offered each week?
Stopped by a Starbucks in Shoreline I had never been to and they had 2 out this morning. So if you really want one, it’s probably a good idea to start looking now, if even the Seattle starbucks aren’t following the rules!
The Starbucks I usually go to had this cup for sale yesterday. I was charged $75. Guess I need to ask for a $10 credit of some type?
My store said they would put whatever drink I wanted in the tumbler.
$75 is regular price. Black Friday price is $65. Some stores put them out early. Some fixed it and put them back, other left them out. High traffic stores will sell out, but in a given area there is always a store that should have them. “Brewed coffee stores” will sell out of the coffee tumbler when it launches. Latte stores will sell out of this tumbler quickly. The brewed coffee tumbler made it all the way to the sale bins at Target license stores last year! (Still available after New Year.) Don’t forget to check there too on Black Friday. You never know.
how disappointing. if people don’t celebrate Christmas they dont have to participate…I don’t participate in haunakkah, but if they did something for that at Starbucks I wouldn’t complain…and if the deals were good enough I would be glad to buy something with a menorah on it. does anybody have a list if the “gift if the week”items?
is the brewed coffee tumbler also going to be for the month of January?
@Michelle – The Brewed Coffee Tumbler is supposed to be available for purchase on 12/9, and it’s good for January 2014, like last year.
The brewed coffee tumbler is to be released on Dec 9 and will be the same deal as last year. Free Coffee all day long for the month of January. I got the espresso tumbler for me but my two college age daughters have had loads of fun the past two years using the coffee tumblers and seeing who can save the most money….so I suppose they will find the Coffee Tumblers under the Christmas tree again….
that sucks…I have the espresso tumbler ahs last year had the coffee tumbler. they should have the coffee tumbler for February so I could buy both if them
This tumbler is awesome. I find this very interesting to avail. Who would never love a tumbler from Starbucks, anyway? I’ve tried their brewed coffee and it’s absolutely the most delicious and soothing coffee ever. Thanks for posting this great deal.
These are now in stock at StarbucksStore.com. Be sure to shop through Ebates for 3.5% cash back. Then use coupon code STNPWEKD for 10% off (yup, it applies to the Black Friday discounted price). Be sure to add something else to the cart to make it $60 for free shipping. Note: the coupon only applies to first-time users.
I really want to take advantage of this deal, but I have 2 questions:
1. I work nights, so I get my ‘morning’ latte in the evening. I’m assuming not, but will time of day matter? A morning coffee right before bed would be a bad idea.
2. Will this be good for franchise stores like Safeway, Fry’s or Target? That’s all I have near me. I have to drive out of my way for a real Starbucks. I don’t mind doing that occasionally for Star rewards, but not every day for a month.
How do we know which stores are participating? I want this but don’t want to risk it!
I got mine this morning! And the best part is that I was able to get it at my Target Starbucks, which allowed me to use my Target RedCard, which gave me an additional 5% off! Merry Christmas to me!
My Target also had the $30 Coffee tumblers for sale. This is after my local Starbucks said the the Coffee tumblers weren’t coming out til Dec 9 and their whole shipment was already spoken for……. and that people had pre-ordered a month ago.
What about iced drinks? I like my lattes over ice, the hot ones are not for me. Also does this mean I have to go inside and forgo my usual drive-thru lol
How about cold espresso?? Coffee w/ shots??
last year I used mine at target…also used it more than once per day. not sure if that is regional or if all targets take it, but since they are selling it I would assume so. An very disappointed that I won’t be able to enjoy both tumblers but am super excited about a month of free lattes.
Hopefully I can answer some of the questions: time of day won’t matter at all, as long as the store is open of course.
I know Target stores were selling them but I have no idea about ones in grocery stores and other places. I would say you can pretty much guarantee though that a corporate store will give you no problems.
Hot or iced shouldn’t matter at all, the only thing it says is espresso beverages. If you wanted coffee with a shot, I would think most baristas would give you that as your drink. Stuff without espresso like hot chocolate I think you’d probably be able to get too since the whole thing is just say yes and if you’re not getting anything wild with that hot chocolate it probably costs less than an espresso drink anyway.
Canada gets left out, again.
Last December I was disappointed to find that the brewed coffee tumbler was not returning.
I really enjoyed using the tumbler I got here in Canada in Dec. 2011, all of January 2012.
No such luck Dec. 2012 / Jan. 2013.
Starbucks needs to remember Canada.
Where did they buy the green coffee beans in 1972 for roasting at the original Starbucks? (Il Giornale)
Vancouver, BC, Canada !
So how does starbucks know if you got more than one beverage a day? Do you have to register the cup or anything to get the free beverages or do they just look at the design and know you get free coffee? Can it be any beverage?
I lucked in to this deal, not knowing about it ahead of time. We were heading to see family on Black Friday and I wanted (needed!) a coffee before we hit the road. While waiting in line, I saw the cup for $65 and snatched it up. For my usual daily drink with soy, this baby will save me $92.50 in January! (I spend waaay too much money on coffee…)
I’ve asked at several stores about whether any registration was necessary to get the drinks. All the baristas say no; they know the “green” tumbler is for the free daily espresso drink in January. This includes Starbucks in grocery stores as well as the stand-alones.
Just snagged this bad boy for only $37.50 today SCORE! I bought it at a Starbucks kiosk located in Target…. Which all Christmas stuff was marked to 50% off… And since all the Starbucks stuff is tied into THEIR system VOILA! Hurry and get one!
I went to my Target this morning and found three of these tumblers on an end cap with some random Christmas items (lights, wreaths, etc.). They were marked $9.36! Needless to say I snatched them up. I found it strange considering my Target doesn’t even have a Starbucks inside of it. Maybe they were returned or something? I don’t know but I am certainly not complaining!
