Breakfast at Starbucks suddenly has a lot more options. On March 4, 2014, Starbucks introduced a new Egg and Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich, Vegetable and Fontiago Breakfast Sandwich, and Slow-Roasted Ham and Swiss Breakfast Sandwich. Your warmed breakfast sandwich options now include:
- Egg & Cheddar on toast. (new)
- Vegetable & Fontaigo. (new)
- Slow-Roast Ham and Swiss Breakfast Sandwich (new)
- Sausage & Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich
- Bacon & Gouda Breakfast Sandwich
- Ham & Cheddar Breakfast Sandwich
- Reduced Fat Turkey Bacon
- Spinach & Feta Breakfast Wrap
That’s a lot of breakfast choices! It seems incredible to me that there are so many breakfast options. To be honest, I never used to order breakfast sandwiches at Starbucks. I really didn’t like them before. Actually, I still don’t like the old recipe breakfast sandwiches (with the exception of the Spinach & Feta Wrap which rocks). The three new breakfast sandwiches are excellent! The Reduced Fat Turkey Bacon Sandwich is not new, but does have a new recipe. I haven’t tried it yet.
I’ve ordered the Vegetable & Fontiago a couple of times and it’s delicious! I will say though, it’s very filling. Order this when you’re genuinely hungry. The Slow-Roasted Ham is another good one. Of course, my favorite warmed breakfast item is an unchanged staple: The Spinach Feta Wrap.
Free Brewed Coffee March 12, 2014 – March 14, 2014 (with purchase of a breakfast sandwich, at participating stores, excludes Clover-brewed coffee).
Starbucks is offering a promotion where if you buy a breakfast sandwich between March 12, 2014 and March 14, 2014, you’ll get a free Grande-sized (16 ounces) brewed cup of coffee (Clover-brewed coffees are excluded). Getting a free coffee is always a fun thing so I thought I’d point this promotion out. The official breakfast sandwich page at Starbucks.com is here.
Which one do you like best? Have you tried the new breakfast items? What do you think? Please weigh in. It was just last October that Starbucks tested the new sandwiches, and sure enough breakfast has a new look.

I love the very simple egg & cheese on toast. I’ve had it every day since we launched it. It brings me back to 5th grade 🙂 every morning. I never thought a breakfast sandwich would bring up such fond memories of childhood.
Melody, I had the new slow-roasted ham and swiss. I wasn’t expecting too much, but was pleasantly surprised that I felt it had a restaurant quality (can’t believe I just said that). It may have been a tad greasy, but nothing like fast food breakfasts, in my opinion.
Thanks for the heads up on the free brewed coffee next week! I will wait until then to try more.
My favorite was the Chicken Sausage Wrap and now that it’s gone, it’s the Bacon Gouda. I will try all of the new breakfast sandwiches, but none of them will become a regular purchase, because they are all too high in calories. I have read nothing but negative reviews about the updated reduced-fat Turkey Bacon, so I’m a little afraid to try it, but I probably will. 🙂
I have only tried the new veggie cheese sandwich and agree with you Melody it is a filling sandwich. Plus as I have said and others, it is too high in calories and fat so will purchase periodically. I wonder how these new sandwiches are selling in different markets? And will they perhaps modify them as they see people are complaining about the calories and fat level?
I’ll have to give some of these a try. My partner and I have pretty much given up on the Spinach & Feta Wrap — much as we both like it, at least half the time we found the middle to be ice cold, even when the ends were too hot to touch. Unfortunately, that only seemed to happen when we were in grab-and-go mode, and couldn’t go back to get it fixed … so we just stopped ordering it.
My favorites are the sausage, slow roasted ham on a croissant, and the new turkey bacon(much better than before!). We have had these for months since we were in a test market, so we have seen certain trends. We sell more turkey bacon sandwiches now than before. The veggie sandwich sales are about the same as some customers transitioned to the egg and cheese. The prosciutto(slow roasted ham) sells about the same as the regular ham. Many customers think the price point is a little high.
The bacon and gouda artisan for sure. I really hope they don’t ever discontinue that one.
I do not like the new turkey bacon recipe at all, and my barista told me most people don’t like it. I used to get it every day. Now I get the spinach feta wrap instead. I do agree though that sometimes the middle is cold; you have to ask the employees to keep it in for a few extra seconds when you order it. I tried the fontiago and it is not too bad but then I saw the calorie count I will not continue to order it. I also don’t love all the messy roasted tomato jam they put on top, and the bread doesn’t taste that fresh (I wonder if it is frozen like the other la boulange stuff?)
Melody. Thanks for the heads up on the 3/12 – 3/14 Starbucks promotion. I will be heading to Southeast Oregon then for a camping trip. I will be sure and stop by a Bend, Oregon Starbucks.
I often don’t have time (or money) to stop for breakfast at Starbucks, but Hubby and I are flying to San Diego tomorrow morning and I think this will be the perfect treat either before or after (maybe both 😉 our early morning flight. Perfect timing Melody! Thanks!
I think it’s great that Starbucks has expanded their sandwich offerings. This week has been the first time I’ve tasted any of the La Boulange foods. Finally! 🙂 Today I had the new Vegetable & Fonitago sandwich with a cup of the Tribute Blend for lunch and it was yummy. Like you mentioned, it’s definitely something to order when you’re truly hungry. The flavors are somewhat comparable to the Spinach Feta Wrap, however, the SFW remains my favorite. I’ve also tried the Tomato & Cheese croissant square thing, which was quite tasty and reminded me of a pizza. That has been the extent of my La Boulange tastings thus far. Oh! I do think the pricing is a little bit high (I’ve always thought their pastries and sandwiches were ill-priced), but hey, this is Starbucks we’re talking about…where we’ve all forked over five bucks for a caffeine fix. 😉
By the way, one of the current rewards includes the sandwiches…purchase one with your registered card and receive 2 bonus stars.
Are these being rolled out in Canada? No sign at this locale..
The bread for these new sandwiches still aren’t very good =(
I tried the Fontiago and Vegetable sandwich this weekend and I liked it. I’ve read a lot of objections to the egg in the new sandwiches, which isn’t scrambled, although no one has said that’s why. I didn’t find the egg to be dry or rubbery, as I keep reading.
I’ve always been a big bacon and gouda sandwich fan. Rarely order anything else when I want breakfast from Starbucks, in fact. I was in the other day, and tried the smoked swiss and ham sandwich…very good. Croissant felt a bit much, thought I suppose I shouldn’t be complaining about fat when ordering those type of breakfast sandwiches! Need to try the egg and toast.
Did they discontinue the turkey panini? I really liked that one.
This morning I tried the updated Turkey Bacon. I believe it IS Canadian style bacon, which must be why people keep describing it as ham. The cheese is barely perceptible. I think it could use that 90 calories back. It doesn’t make for a very satisfying breakfast.
I wish they would have included a grande tea with this promotion not just coffee.
I tried the egg and cheddar on toast when my Starbucks was out of my favorite sausage and cheddar. I thought it was very good and will probably order it in the future. It’s 100 fewer calories than my usual choice.
I was able to do the breakfast sandwich/coffee promo today (well the 14th). And without even asking they let me get an iced coffee instead of the brewed because that’s my usual. I got the new ham and swiss breakfast sandwich, which I hadn’t tried before and they insisted I get. I thought it was pretty good. Though swiss cheese is my favorite cheese, so it wasn’t a hard sell. Even though I liked the taste, I do not think it was worth the cost. $4.45 compared to $2.95 for the sausage, egg & cheese (which is my favorite of the old breakfast sandwiches).
