The holiday game “Starbucks For Life” is back! The game and rules are totally different than last year’s so take a few minutes to try it out:
Play now through January 11, 2016, to try to win Starbucks for life. You can play up to two game pieces per day. What you are trying to do is collect game pieces, and fill up your board with each game piece in the right place.
Your game board will look something like this: (This is a desktop view)
When you can play, the box with the bow will be wrapped in bright red wrapping paper. You click on the box to reveal what is inside. What you hope to have is one of the icons on the right, such as the ornament, candy cane, yeti with red cup, or whatever. When you unwrap the box (by clicking on it), you might not have an icon at all. Many of the plays will result in you earning one or more bonus stars. I just tried it and got one bonus star. When you earn a bonus star, you’ll be sent an email with a star code to enter to get your bonus star(s).
The icons that you’re collecting look like this: (This is only a sample of them, not all)
There are two ways to get a play. First is through a purchase, and the other is free. When you login to Starbucks For Life, if you scroll to the very very bottom, in tiny print there’s a link for how to get a play without a purchase. That’s what I just did so that I could give it a try.
Happy playing! It would be so much fun if one of my readers won a big prize! Of course, the grand prize, is the coveted gold, “Starbucks For Life” card, which gives you a free Starbucks food or beverage, every single day for 30 years. (Alcohol and Evenings Food is excluded). There are 5 grand prize “Starbucks For Life” cards!
In order to play, you have to be in the United States, over 18, and you cannot work for Starbucks. All the detailed rules are here.

It’s funny you post this because this morning, when I paid using my starbucks card, something printed that said Starbucks for life and I thought the cashier was going to put the slip in my bag with my 2 lbs of coffee but it was never there so I’m thinking she threw it away. Should I just make sure to ask for my receipt?
@Amy – I’m at home so haven’t figured out the in store version of getting a play exactly yet. Let me get back to you. I had wondered if you payed with a card, would the play automatically show up when you log into Starbucks For Life?
I saw this promotion this morning and just went to the site and too won 1 bonus star.
So fun! I was given my receipt upon purchase in store today, but I don’t think the receipt has anything needed on it. From what I understand if you pay with your registered card you are sent an email with more information! I too one a bonus star 🙂
Shoot! I was all set to play until I got to the ‘you cannot work for Starbucks’ part :-). Now that I think about it though, I already get free drinks when I work and a free food item, so, there’s that. I’ll tell my wife to play 🙂
@Marck – Oh no! Read the rules! I think household members of a Starbucks employee aren’t elig to play either. 🙁
Oh you guys are right! I just logged in and it works without the receipt . I got a free star 🙂
Hi,
A Canadian version of the contest is available at:
https://www.starbucksforlife.ca/ Good luck!
I got an enchanted Narwhal!
@Marck Starbucks is doing a partner version of Starbucks for Life this year! Should be soon. You should follow Starbucks Partners on FB.
This is a fun “game”. Now… let’s go win something. I’ve got two stickers on the board!
Does the “play without a purchase” feature work more than once, or is it effectively one free turn at the game?
@melody: How long did it take you to get your email for the free entry? It’s been probably 20ish hours and I’ve yet to get anything. I even tried a second time thinking maybe I’d misread something or entered something incorrectly. 🙁
Would love to know what the rare pieces are. i got the thirsty yeti.
Hello.. the rarest of all the pieces will be the simple christmas bell.
Hope one of us wins. Good luck all. Just missing one symbol per row.
Sam,
I’m missing 1 piece for month free, 1 year for year free and 2 for for life
@Justin I think the free arrives fairly quickly. Maybe not instantaneously but probably within a few minutes (I wasn’t paying too much attention when I did it, but definitely less than an hour). Did you check your junk mail? The email should be titled “Your free Starbucks for Life game play” and be sent from Starbucks@eprizepromotions.com .
@Justin – I just requested a free play and it took about 2-3 minutes to get a reply.
Thanks for the reminder, Melody!
I have yet to receive anything. I have tried everyday for the past 3 days since it started. I used my iPhone 6 plus for the first two days and it did not work. I never received any email in my junk or main account. Using an @me.com email address. I do get emails about my lucky dozen and sales etc. etc. to that account. I emailed them and they said that they cannot email me a game play that it has to be done through the website. And i saved thememail address that the women said the email would come through as. So today I did it on my apple laptop using safari and still nothing. Hoping I would come here and see more people have a problem but I guess only one.
Starbucks employees and their families are not eligible. It ahould be a fun game though!
I need a candy cane or a reindeer.
Seems like the rare pieces are unique to each player.
For myself (a partner) I now have two pieces for every prize except the home espresso expert kit. I ended up getting multiple narwhals and nutcrackers. Just my insight, for my board the rare pieces seem to be in the middle, candy cane, mistletoe, etc…
Anybody know which game pieces are the rare winner pieces?
@Melody Yeah, that’s the first thing I tried(checking spam). Still nothing. I got some plays for using my Starbucks app and got the bonus star email but still haven’t gotten a free play email. It’s worth noting that my email is also an iCloud email account like Fran. We both seem to be having issues so it makes me wonder if it’s a coincidence or if I should try changing my email address.
I enjoy drinking mocha latte’s run days and I hope you keep drinking them until I win this coffee especially Starbucks for life you guys are absolutely the bomb so I’m going to enter to win and I wish myself the best of luck
rare pieces are:
mistletoe, candy cane, ornament, and bell
Audrey-
That would be explain why those are the only 4 pieces that I need 🙁
I already have the candy cane and the cat towards winning Starbucks for a month. That in theory is wonderful. But that doesn’t make me a winner. What if I don’t get the nutcracker, which is presumably a common piece in all my attempts over the next few weeks, until the contest ends? It’s great winning the odd bonus star(s) but I have also “won” pieces that are duplicates of what I already have. Last year’s contest was so much easier. Either you were a winner, or you were not. None of this nonsense collecting prize pieces. Which makes me wonder how many players will be left with the scarce pieces, and no prize at the end of this contest. Is this fair?
H Shore- I agree. I wonder at this point, how many of the unique pieces are left, if any. I do think its fun to log in daily to see if you will win. At this point, instead of getting the same pieces over and over, I rather have extra stars. I will still continue to play because it’s fun!!
What I am wondering if how people posted on December 9th that they were only missing one per row! That would imply there is some way to play more than twice per day. Is that true??
If there are any Canadians on here having problems redeeming their star codes, you need to go to starbucks.ca/card/rewards to redeem them. For some reason the emails are sending people to the US site, which results in the following message:
“No spaces or dashes
Oops, something has gone wrong!”
Starbucks employees have their own Starbucks for Life this year!
Thanks so much Jo! I was having that issue with the star codes and now it works!!
Canadians…are you unable to log in to play? Whenever I go to starbucksforlife.ca the sign in link sends me to starbucks.com instead of starbucks.ca
Erin – that doesn’t seem to be affecting playability for me. I still get my plays for purchases and can fill out the form for free plays.
The only time logging into the US site seems to matter is when trying to redeem a Canadian star code (it gets you an error message, as I noted above).
Is it causing you issues?
The candy cane is a unique piece I believe so you almost have it!!
I did not get my emails today 12/29/2015
I have been trying for 3 days to get a game piece without purchase ( snowbound at home)do the things that are needed and message says I will receive link via my email but nothing arrives even checking the spam folder. Contact Starbucks support and they are no help bc they say it is handled by another company Hello World Fullfillment. Fill out their long form and then they say will get back to me within 3 days. Feel this is very poorly run. Any others with issues re this? Support at SB was none existent! Trish and Crystal thanks for needing multiple pieces of info including my 16 digit Starbucks card for no help at all. All the could say is it is not their problem
I have been unable to get game piece from the link Starbucks for life (play with no purchase). Also when I buy something at Starbucks in the store with my registered card I also do not get any game piece or plays on my registered account. At the beginning of the contest I was able to get game piece through the link (no purchase link). I played two per day for a few days with this link. Now I get NONE< NOTHING! I figure the contest is so popular and I just have to wait. That is frustrating as I want to play each day. They got me hooked and now no more. AH.
@Happy – I did a form for a free play yesterday afternoon and got the email at 11 am this morning. Usually it takes 2-3 minutes. I had this happen a few days ago, too. I’ve also recently had a few where I did not receive a free play at all, sent a second form in and eventually got one. This was not a problem until this weekend. Not sure if they are doing something with their servers or if something else is going on.
I’ve seen on Twitter that some Canadians have been having problems signing into their accounts, particularly on their app. And some people have signed in and ending up in someone else’s account, so maybe Starbucks is trying to fix that and it’s affecting the game.
I was just skimming through Twitter and there are a lot of complaints today about people not getting their free plays. Something must be going on with the site.
I’ve been getting game pieces without purchasing anything regularly via the website, but yesterday (12/29) I never got my pieces. My mom complained of the same issue. I hope they fix it and give us the pieces we lost! I also haven’t gotten my game pieces today yet and it’s been 30 minutes since I entered my info. online.
starbucks for life is not working for me anymore everytime is sign in it does not send me a link no more is there something going on with the game? i need one piece for every row and now it wont send me no links
Same as Vanessa. Wondering if the site is down? It keeps saying to check my email, but so far nothing has been sent. (Both yesterday and today). Bummer.
Today I got 8 in my mail box but only two would give me game play today.
Looks like I am still out 6 tries for the prize?
I’m also having the same issue many are reporting, with missing free plays… I’ve tried filling out the form for about a week now, only worked the first day and never again. Just never receive the emails. I get my plays from purchase just fine, but not the free play from filling the request form. I’m in the US, using Gmail and have tried filling out form on both LG G3 cellphone and my home computer running Windows 10. Bummed.
The site says you can get stars when You buy specially marked Starbucks products where you buy groceries. I buy it everyday from grocery and convenience stores but I’ve never seen anything about getting a star. Does anyone know how it works when buying from a grocery?
Lisa Smith – I believe they have are supposed to have a peel-off gold sticker the contains the star code. See: https://h2savecom.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/screen-shot-2013-07-08-at-3-23-01-pm.png
However this may only be available in the US, if you’re anywhere else I’m not sure packages have these (eg. I’ve never seen them in Canada, though maybe they are coming soon as we finally have a place on the Canadian website to redeem them).
