Have you ever wondered what a Frappuccino would taste like if a magical unicorn came up with it? Now you know:
So what is this?
This is a crème based Frappuccino: There is NO coffee in this drink: It’s blue and pink pixie dust, made with the finest rainbows and unicorn magic! And of course there’s the super power strength of those wearing the green apron who make it perfectly for you!
It’s like as if sour patch kids inspired this drink. There’s mango syrup in it, but the blue drizzle and blue powder are definitely sour. You will notice it’s sour! I like it! This is pretty much the Starbucks version of Mango sour patch kid candy!
It’s a pretty drink too! The blue drizzle inside of it gives such an interesting look.
My prediction is that this will be a huge hit. You also have to think about how original this drink is. I don’t think there’s ever been a sour Frappuccino before.
When you can get it:
Starbucks will be releasing this as a limited drink 4/19 through 4/23. And then after that it will still be available via mobile order or by request 4/24 – 4/27. (Anything that is available by mobile order IS available in the stores. You should never be told “No, you didn’t order it right so we can’t sell it.”)
This is available while supplies last. The pink and blue magic powder is in limited supply. If you don’t come in early, your store might run out of the right recipe components.
Enjoy your Unicorn Frappuccino!

I’m so excited to try this, mainly because I really love sour things, lol.
Colors are attention getting, easy to see associates handing them out the drive-thru window from several cars back this afternoon in Madison, Wisconsin. Blue, pink and purple swirls; pink sugar topping looks like cotton candy starter mix; I liked the mango and sour accents in this sweet drink.
At a suburban location this evening they closed their drive thru because they could not keep up making unicorn frappuccino and were indeed running out of ingredients. Not sure if they weren’t prepped for popularity or if scarcity is a marketing strategy.
My wife got one of these for her birthday freebie (Happy Birthday Cindy!). She made one simple modification — use heavy cream instead, so it turned out like soft serve ice cream. I’m not a big Frapp fan but this one was delicious when I tried it.
Whoa! While I was sorry my local Wisconsin Starbucks ran out of ingredients within 2 days, the social and other media attention was very negative. Associates found it complicated and messy to make. Google late night hosts/celebrities like Stephen Colbert, and the color, amount of sugar and sour edge come in for harsh criticism/mockery.
I get frappuccinos on occasion, but iced ristretto espressos are my go-to. So I can see the barrista side if unicorn really a pita to prep. Enthusiasts and critics alike can all chill now, since unicorn season seems to be over anyway,
