I’m sure everyone notices the chalk art signage at their local Starbucks store. Once in a while a sign will jump out at me, and I think, ‘this is stunning.’ There are many unknown great artists hidden under green aprons. This sign featured in this blog post was one of those moments. I asked the barista who created it (“Heidi”) how she did, and she said she just free-hand drew it. I love it. I love Casi Cielo too, and here is my previous blog entry on Casi Cielo:
Anyone who has some particularly wonderful barista art images that they’d like to see featured on my blog, I would consider doing another episode on this theme with reader submitted content. Please email me at Sbux206@StarbucksMelody.com. This is also an open thread. Feel free to talk about any Starbucks-related topic. I’m constantly looking for new content ideas too. Though it might not seem like it, I sometimes struggle to figure out what to blog about!

Chalkboards? I don’t recall seeing one of those in ages – I think they were replaced by Via and Potato Chips… but I certainly will make a mental note to look for it next time I’m in a ‘Bux.
Good Coffee Day to You!
The hidden talents of our amazing baristas never cease to amaze me.
I haven’t noticed any extraordinary artwork recently. On V2V one of the stores had in their pics some beautiful artwork. Can’t remember which store though.
I wish I had captured some of the lovely art there has been at my store, I will need to start keeping that in mind. When I asked how they did it I was told they have neat wet chalk markers, which makes it more like ink drawing, and freehand, I have never heard of stencils being provided.
Gorgeous sign. I always notice those in our local Starbucks. And I have always wondered if they are sneaky decals or if someone actually took the time to craft it all by hand. I’m jealous of someone with such talent!
Heidi is amazing at these. I don’t know how anyone draws with those wet erase markers. They’re wretched, in my opinion. But Heidi does amazing stuff with them, consistently.
I’m at Starbucks #2846 and there is not a chalkboard.. and I did notice they removed 2 tables for the new “snack area” Gotta love the ‘Bux!
Hey, I snapped a cellphone photo of the Starbucks chalkboard at my favorite location. I watched Barista Amanda working on this a couple weeks ago…they place it outside daily and it looks like a little of our recent rain dripped on it.

two of our girls are amazing at this as well. Recently one of them took the pains to draw the komodo dragon on the small signage for the brews of the day. I photoed it, but I’m afraid it’s not the best photo.
She is always adding amazing charm to the cafe-at Christmas she made a little sign with 3 snowmen drinking starbucks!
they are not wet erase markers-they are chalk in the form of markers
btw karl-that was indeed a stencil 😉 just fyi
I always enjoy the artwork in my local stores. It’s great to see that hidden talent in some of the baristas!
Heidi always does such an amazing job! She draws just about all of our chalkboard signs now! I know that she had actually gotten a 2 hour class on how to draw out the font of our letters on the main chalkboard. I totally want to learn!
We took a picture of the Magical Unicorn at Starbucks – The VIA chalkboard:

i work in a half liscenced half corporate Starbucks on a university campus. We have one horizontal chalk board that is maybe 10 feet long and five feet high. Right next to it is a vertical board that is also abot the same size. This is in addition to our board behind the line that we get templates for. Does anyone else have these? Our problem is coming up with an awesome and groovy design for the large ones. Yes, I am dating my self by using “groovy”. We need ideas for the hard launch on 12/10/2015. Usually those spaces are reserved for our football team logo with a tie in like “… loves Starbucks”. We need something else. Any ideas? Thanks and I love your website!
