Teavana and Care.org have partnered to empower women in poverty in Asia, India and Africa. The promotion began in early September, and donates money to Care.org when a customer makes a purchase of the Teavana – Care branded merchandise. I think this is pretty cool. The Care – Teavana merchandise includes tote bags, a tea tumbler, and an “Empowerment Tea Collection.” Teavana will donate $2.00 care for each Care – Teavana tote bag sold, $3,00 for every tea tumbler sold, and $5.00 for each Empowerment Tea Collection set.
There are three designs to the tote bags – I bought the one that is the India design. It’s the only one with the affirmation, “I am powerful” on the side of the bag. There are a little over 300 Teavana stores nationwide, so if you get the chance to drop by one, check out this partnership. Care.org is a well-established non-profit working to eliminate poverty, and life up those in third-world countries. At one point in the 1990s, Starbucks was the largest single financial donor to Care.org. (See the 1993 Annual Shareholders Report.) I personally would like to hear of more exciting ways that Starbucks and Care.org are working together.

I went into Teavana tonight partly because I heard that right now they’re offering a delicious seasonal Spiced Apple Cider. You can see lots of dried fruit pieces, cinnamon sticks, and plenty of spices. I ordered a cup of it hot, so that I could try it right away. It’s delicious. I was immediately greeted by a large banner sign for the new Spiced Apple Cider.
This was a light Spiced Apple Cider. If you are used to drinking an apple cider made with spices added to heated apple juices, then this might seem a little thin at first sip. But think of it as an amazing way to have apple cider without the added calories from the apple juice! I thought this was great. It’s versatile: You can make a wonderful hot apple cider tea by brewing this Spiced Apple Cider, or I am sure you could add it to apple juice to add a nice spiced flavor. Last but not least, as a reminder, you will earn a My Starbucks Rewards star for each transaction at Teavana. You can also pick up the Teavana-branded Starbucks card at Teavana stores. Register it, load money on it, and use it to pay for your purchases, and you’ll start earning rewards under the My Starbucks Rewards program.

Whole vacationing in Chicago, I also stopped in for a cup of the new Spiced Apple Tea, Delicious!! A refreshing taste of Fall!! As I waited for my tea to brew, I fell in love with the ” Care” tote. The fact that my purchase of it will help with the organization is a lovely bonus!!
I’m really happy Starbucks has started acquiring such great companies and are choosing not to “make them their own” like they did with Tazo. Teavana is an interesting choice and a wise one, because Starbucks has been trying to get more tea drinkers into their stores since 2010 (at least, that’s when it became a priority.). Adding Teavana will allow Starbucks to hopefully carry better tea beverages in stores and attract the yea crowd, which is a huge group! I’m excited to find a Teavana near me so I can try this spiced apple tea! It sounds delicious! Especially with winter on it’s way (we are in Colorado now and it already snowed last night!).
This cider sounds so delicious- there is only one Teavana store anywhere near me, and it is about 20 minutes away in an area I don’t usually visit. I wish I had read this post earlier, because I was out there just yesterday! I will have to make a special trip, both for the cider and to check out the Care products. That is such a cool thing that they are doing.
Are these items only available in the stores? Any idea how long this is running? Have to see if I can squeeze in a visit to the store by me. Thanks for sharing!
The Apple Cider Rooibos is something that I’ll have to try before I buy, in general I don’t enjoy Rooibos teas. I usually buy herbal, chai or a flavored green. I avoid Teavana stores to spare my wallet, I buy way too much every time I go in, I’m entranced by the tins, the scents and the gifts. The problem there lies solely with me. Did you buy tea Melody? Did you have to buy a tin? Recently I was told in the states that I had to buy a package in order to buy tea, I asked them to put it in a bag and that I’d use my own air tight container at home, they said they’re not allowed anymore. Anyone else?
Ps my spell check doesn’t include Rooibos, I think they need to drink more tea on that team.
Whoa Becca. That’s an interesting comment. The thing with the tins is fascinating. It would seem, from what I can see, that Teavana is a very hard-sell on their tins. I remember talking to a SM who is right along Pine Street who went into Teavana and spent a ton of money on tins, and was really annoyed when I told him you don’t have to do that. They are definitely allowed to sell the tea without selling a tin. I do buy tea there. It is hard on the wallet. There are no discounts for Melody! LOL. I know that you can get a partner discount there, if you are a partner.
I bought the new Apple Cider Rooibos, and spent way too much money. They have like small paper bags they can put them in.
Teavana seems to have a reputation for being high pressure. I have seen some of that too. When I go to the Pacific Place Teavana, many of those partners know recognize me, and I just easily say “no” – I always say I have the tins at home because I bought them previously, and while I maybe bought one once, it works out fine. Also, since I make a lot of iced tea, I feel like I use their teas pretty quickly! I guess I am just not worried about storing them in their tins.
Becca, I am sorry – you got some of their high-pressure tactics. That’s how they earned that reputation.
Okay, I’ll have to check out the Teavana in Terminal A at DFW Airport when I’m there Wednesday. I work just three gates away, so I’ll head down there.
I don’t mind the attempt to sell…I get that, and I don’t want you to get the message I was conveying misconstrued…mostly I love them and their tea and my discount…I just had one bad experience and much like many Starbucks customers I will go back, find someone nice to help me and move forward. Maybe next time I’ll bring my own jars 🙂 I’m not disgruntled I just wanted to know what others have experienced.
On another note, maybe you should consider a barista career on the side…perks perks perks, but the romance may be lost.
Funny side note Becca! Well, i have had many thoughts about what it would be like to work for Starbucks. Though mostly what it cycles back to is that I think that if I were a partner, Starbucks could possibly exert some control over what I say on this blog. ?? In fact, I think that if Starbucks really wanted to control what I say on this site, the fastest way to do that would be to give me a paycheck! LOL 😉

Teavana actually tries to say they “can’t” sell you tea unless you buy a tin?
