Hope everyone is having a safe and happy New Year’s Eve!
I expect that 2015 will bring lots of fun things for Starbucks. Coming soon, the Starbucks Reserve coffee packaging will get a major overhaul, with a fresh new look. You can see a sneak peek of it in this photo. I think it’s simple and elegant.
From what I’ve heard, the transition to new packaging will come about sometime in February.
You can see an example of the old Starbucks Reserve packaging in this past coffee tasting article.
You can find the new packaging already in use at the Starbucks Reserve Roastery and Tasting Room. Do you like it?

Hmm. Wonder if they’ll have new Reserve sleeves for single cup Reserve Clover drinks? Can anyone else think of something they might change with this new color scheme? Now my Reserve Roastery gift card doesn’t match the new bags of Reserve coffee. 😉
So exciting. Starbucks always reinventing new ways for the company. I do wish they bring back old reserves. My first reserve was Oahu and it was fabulous. I hope they bring some back that they haven’t had in a while for this new year
Hmm. Our Reserve shelving was built to hold the bag horizontally. So we get another renovation? Hahaha #oops
Are those coffee stamps on the bag seals? I would hope so.
Warning: for those of you who know me, you had better be sitting down before I make my next comment 😉
I like this new style bag. It is clean and simple but elegant. Very easy to read. 🙂
LOL DadCooks! I like the new packaging too! I think we can’t help but be drawn to new colors and designs on packaging. When the core coffees got makeovers a couple of years ago I just couldn’t stop looking at them with wonder. Now I don’t even give it another thought.
I am curious about how the display of these coffees will change with the shift from landscape to portrait. I need to visit my Reserve store soon and check this stuff out!
I LOVE the new bags and reserve cards! I can’t wait for them to launch, I believe the date is February 23rd, but don’t quote me on that. 😉
I hope they launch an update for the reserve feature cube to really highlight these coffees. There are some fantastic reserves around the corner, and can’t wait to try them all! 🙂
Without seeing the entire packaging, it still looks pretty nice! It’s time for a change, and it’s a good look. @Melody – Since these are 4 of the current Reserve’s that are out now, will we be seeing these on these same 4 Reserves in Feb.? Or…. Are these just 4 sample packages?
@Jocelyn – I too think that the new bags will be way more visible and striking to customers!
@DadCooks – Loved your comment!
@Chgo – There is a sun-dried Ethiopia Konga coming soon – I just tried it today. WOW. It’s wonderful. Smooth. low acidity. Some blueberry notes. Loved it. It’s medium to dark – Well, I’d either call it a dark med roast, or a lighter dark roast! LOL.I hope you like it.
@Kristen – You’ve got fixtures designed for horizontal packaging? Who thought up that? From what I can see, most Reserve fixtures have the kind of shelving that is adjustable so it should be a problem to adapt. Maybe you do have a remodel in your future! 🙂
It is going to be really interesting to see how Starbucks applies the new Reserve rebrand in Clover stores over time, especially considering it has long been known for the black and gold appearance.
Was just thinking: it’s time for a Sun-dried Ethiopia Yergacheffe to appear…….
So excited to hear that a sun dried Ethiopia is coming soon!
@Becky E and Chgo – You get a hint of it here – Though this second blog of mine isn’t really all Starbucks related – http://www.melodyseattle.com/new-blog/2015/1/2/new-years-day-tradition-coffee-with-jocelyn-ethiopia-konga-at-bainbridge-island-starbucks
Melody, thanks for the link to your Seattle blog. Very interesting and you and Jocelyn must have so much fun out on the Island! Beautiful pictures. Can’t wait for the Konga to become available.
Don’t like them at all.
Not sure why a product that’s suppose to be evocative of a unique rich taste is in white packaging. White – from a marketing point of view – often suggests lighter, diet or even less expensive. Looks just like any other product on a grocery store shelf.
Packaging is nice but that aside, I wonder how locations are selected for the Clover. Why not in all shops?
@BFC – That’s a good question. Coffee is a farm product. Kind of like how one farmer might produce lovely Red Delicious apples and another might produce Honey Crisps or Fiji apples. One farmer can only produce so much coffee – when you’re dealing with a single origin coffee – Like Panama Carmen Estate – there is only so much of that one crop. (Just the same way that if you tried to sell one single farmers crop of Red Delicious apples in 20,000 Starbucks stores, it just wouldn’t work – that farmer’s crop is not likely to be large enough).
These Reserve coffees are almost entirely single-origin coffees – not blends of multiple farmers beans. In fact, when you see a coffee described as an “estate coffee” that almost always means one farmer’s crops. One coffee estate.
There are about (roughly) 600 Reserve stores, as far as I know. It’s probably a challenge even now to find crops large enough to supply for all the Clover – Reserve stores.

This Ethiopia Kongs sounds awesome! Sorry for the typos but social media bar is blocking my typing on my phone 🙁
