Starbucks has new Madeleines, called “Marvelous Madeleines.” They really are marvelous! The new ones are a bit cakey-er and have a touch of a vanilla flavor to them. A madeleine is a soft, cake-like cookie that is a very small treat by itself or great of dunking in your coffee.
I saw the new Marvelous Madeleine cookies last night at the University Village 1 Starbucks and decided I had to try them. Coffee Master Phyll was working and suggested that I try them with Gold Coast Blend. Just as an aside, Phyll has been at the University Village Starbucks for four years. I always enjoy how she’s passionate about everything she does and she is knowledgeable about Starbucks. We made small talk and she mentioned that she’s leaving Starbucks in July of this year. She’ll be spending two years in Guatemala with the Peace Corp. While I’m always a little sad when great partners leave Starbucks, I couldn’t be more excited for her new adventure. That’s incredible! Congrats partner Phyll for joining the Peace Corp! I should have asked for a photo of her here on the blog, and regret that I didn’t!
The Gold Coast really was a lovely pairing. I drink a lot of Reserve coffees and sometimes it’s easy to forget how much fun the core coffees are. The buttery aspect of the Marvelous Madeleines paired well with the smoothness of Gold Coast. Not that long ago, I mentioned new biscotti to try as something to dunk in your coffee.
The new Marvelous Madeleines are branded as a La Boulange item, so I have to assume that the recipe was developed by the Starbucks La Boulange team. The little packages of three cookies retail for $2.25.
Two thumbs up for Marvelous Madeleines! Have you tried them? (Some stores may still have the older style Madeleines which are being phased out.)

Yum. I hope I find some!
I have seen these on the shelves near the register will have to try them. The black and white cookies are still around and still seem to be the same.
Go Phyll! That’s wonderful!
I am loving these madeleines. Buttery, cakey, vanilla. What’s not to love! I suggest dipping them in mocha sauce. (Just ask your barista for two pumps mocha in a sample cup.)
I have seen these in stores the past week. They definitely sound REALLY delicious! I look forward to trying these along with the new Biscotti. Yummy!! 🙂
Thank you for reminding me about madelines. My daughter and I stopped at Starbucks today, and I bought a package to share. I got one and she got two. She’s four and a half and loves them.
I want to try these! I am sitting at my Reserve Roscoe Village store right now which is one of the few stores in Chicago testing out the fancy new pastry case. I guess they can’t test everything. They don’t have the new Madelines. 🙁 He said that some stores in Chicago have them though. I’m hoping they will come here soon. I’ll have to check my work store tomorrow!
I have not seen these yet. I’m not a Madeline fan unless they come out with chocolate, but my boys love them & eat them all the time. I do wish they were four in a pack instead of three it would be easier to split between them.
I hate!!! the new Madeleines! I would purchase these about 2 or 3 times each week. I stopped purchasing them a couple of weeks ago and just tried them again – well actually now. I won’t be purchasing them again. These are not even a close second to the other ones. I think Costco still carries the others. Problem there is instead of enjoying them a few times a week, I sometimes enjoy them a couple of times a day…
These “marvelous Madeleines” are NOT marvelous. They are round and thicker and sponge-y and pretty flavorless. The original madeleines were so much better. They were an absolute favorite of mine. I will not be purchasing any more of these La Boulange interlopers…once was such a disappointment.
Here we go again, switching out wonderfully tasting products for less-than-equal Madeleines. The new Marvelous Madeleines are so full of oil, the taste is certainly missing. Try this – open a pack of the Marvelous Madeleines, lay one on a starbucks paper napkin and wait 1 minute. The cooking oil leaves a very visible mark on the napkin – yuck! So, I’m looking elsewhere for the petite French Madeleines we so loved, along with a tastier lemon pound cake and many others. Shame on you Starbucks . . .
I just had a packet of marvelous madeleines for the first time…..omg…now my fave coffee companion:)
These aren’t even madeleines. Madeleine cookies have a proscribed shape–the long form of the old madeleines. These new “marvelous madeleines” are simply small shell shaped cookies. They aren’t proper madeleines at all.
Not only that, but they are at least half as much total cookie per pack as the old proper madeleines AT THE SAME PRICE.
It’s gouging, and I’m never buying the fake “madeleines”.
Oh, just like when we lost lemon knots and carmelitas, it’s a sad change for the worse at Starbucks.
