It’s time to start ordering Starbucks summer drinks with coconut! This means you can order the Mocha Coconut Blended Frappuccino, Mocha Coconut Light Frappuccino, a hot mocha coconut drink, the Coconut Creme Blended Frappuccino, or experiment with coconut syrup in something like a cool lime Refresher. You should be seeing bottles of coconut syrup turning up everywhere!
Coconut won’t be around for long. Starbucks sent their stores only a limited supply just to get through the hot summer weather.
Starbucks first offered the Mocha Coconut Frappuccino in 2002, and due to its popularity, it returns most summers to Starbucks stores everywhere.
The two most popular drinks are the Coconut Creme Blended Frappuccino and the Mocha Coconut Blended Coffee Frappuccino.
The Coconut Creme Blended Frappuccino is coconut syrup, whole milk, whipped together with ice (and a special Frappuccino base) and topped off with whipped cream and toasted coconut flakes.
The Mocha Coconut Blended Coffee Frappuccino is Frappuccino roast (an Italian Roast coffee), mocha sauce, whole milk, a special Frappuccino base, and topped with whipped cream that gets sprinkled with toasted coconut flakes, and drizzled with mocha sauce.
Enjoy! What’s your favorite coconut drink at Starbucks?

Good morning,
Off topic but I just wanted to share that I tried the steeped iced coffee this morning and it’s wonderful !!!
@Lisa J – Thank you for your comment. What do you mean by steeped iced coffee? Sounds like you might mean the “cold brew” – That is good! If it’s something different than cold brew, please send pics, because you’ve got my curiosity.
So I should be able to get coconut syrup in my regular coffee then?
Ahhhhhhh… And my life is complete. Now… If I can just talk them into selling me a bottle for home.
Just had the Mocha coconut blended frappuccino this morning using white chocolate. Yummmm
I have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of coconut for weeks but it hasn’t arrived yet at any stores in NYC! I love my ice coffee with coconut syrup and I want one! So frustrating.
@Brian – If you want coconut syrup in your regular (hot?) coffee you should be able to get it. Your barista will likely charge you a 60 cents upcharge for that (don’t quote me on price because there can be some regional variation on prices, as well as licensed stores often have their own separate pricing structure.)
I’ve read several posts on different facebook pages that the coconut syrup tastes different now. Many don’t seem to like it. Does anyone know if they’ve changed the ingredients? I’m hesitant to try it as my grown son also agrees that something is off about it.
@Becky – That’s a great comment. I’ve read tons of Facebook comments that it doesn’t taste like before. I assume that the coconut syrup went through a recipe change but I don’t really know. I’ve had just one this year so far (I actually don’t drink a lot of Frappuccinos) and it tasted okay, but I don’t think I’ve had enough of the mocha coconut frappuccinos from years past to really know.
I would love to know if others think the coconut syrup is off this year.
i’m a partner and the coconut is so disgusting this time around.
i love coconut everything, and loved the syrup in 2011, but am so disappointed!
supposedly the supplier used to be fontana (that makes the white mocha) and is no longer. so sad!
I’m so happy to have the coconut syrup back this year! It just wasn’t summer without my mocha coconut frappuccino. I remember the previous coconut syrup was a lot nuttier/toastier in flavor and was closer to the coconut in the Samoa Girl Scout cookies. This year’s syrup reminded me of a [cheap] fruity coconut rum. It wasn’t objectionable to me, just different and still drinkably delicious. The toppings really do anchor the sweetness and bring in the nuttiness. YUM!
@Russell … Yes, you are correct. Last time around the syrup WAS Fontana. I’m certain of that, because I bought 4 bottles of it to use at home. I have to agree, unfortunately, that this year’s syrup is not as good. Truthfully, not even close for me. Last week I had a Coconut Iced Mocha and definitely felt like the taste was “off”. It didn’t taste bad; instead, just not what I had liked before. Yesterday, I gave it another try in Iced Coffee this time. Still not good, so I had to attribute it to a different syrup. Since it’s “three strikes and you’re out” for me, I’m going to give it one more try in the Cool Lime Refresher… my favorite way to use coconut. Hate to say it, but so far I’m glad they were not able to sell me a bottle.
Oh so sad! I was one of the many pleading to have the coconut syrup as a standard. I was SO happy when I learned this was back and couldn’t wait to have a vanilla bean coconut frappuccino. But, as I’ve now read in several places from many people, this stuff is not only different from the last time, it’s horrible. I really didn’t want to believe what I was tasting,so I tried it again at another store, another day. Same. It has a really bad kind of “bite” to it, and same aftertaste. I’ve given it to a couple friends to try, w/out any forewarning: same rxn. They thought it was undrinkable. I’m so sorry Sbux put this one through. What a disappointment for something that was once so good. 🙁
Does anyone know what stores are offering the Mocha Coconut Frapps? They have been supposedly offered since July 23rd, but here it is July 30th, and my local store in Georgia doesn’t have it available.
@Emily: Which store are you trying for? I’m a partner in NW Georgia, and if it helps, we did not receive any coconut until the day before launch (not everyone was aware of the drink, too, assuming customers were requesting the Caramel Cocoa Cluster Frappuccino). That said, I hope they merely had a delay in shipment, and that you can enjoy one here very soon!
I wanted to like the Mocha Coconut Frappuccino, but the coconut taste was really bad. It was very fake tasting, almost like they used coconut perfume instead of syrup.
I have just had a long awaited, much missed, glorious coconut creme frappuchino, venti size to celebrate…..but….so sad!…it had a horrible bitter aftertaste and had lost that natural creamy flavor of 2011…definitely tasted off….come back previous flavor,we miss you!:0
The coconut is definitely different this year. Even Starbucks has acknowledged a recipe change and the syrup is darker. Used to love coconut chai…not anymore!
I’ve had two Mocha Coconut Frappuccino’s and they are HORRIBLE. The drinks taste like they have licorice in them. For a big coconut lover, this is very disappointing.
In SoCal Los Angels area my local Manhattan beach South Bay Starbucks still does it for me when I was a partner few years back when the drink was out tested great coming from Fontana but
When I get a granda mocha coconut no whip still smells like an almond joy 😉
I seem to be the only one that remembers the banana mocha coconut frappucino back in 2006. Yes, the coconut syrup this Summer is not pleasant and I won’t be offering it again!
How much is this?
