I decided to get out of Seattle for another Starbucks store review. Almost totally randomly, I picked the Starbucks on Broadway at 37th Street in Everett, Washington (store #8740). This Starbucks does not have a Clover and does not offer any Reserve coffees. It has a drive-thru, though I went inside. It’s a normal Starbucks. I arrived at about 3:00 in the afternoon and ordered a tall Christmas Blend in a for-here cup. It was hot and fresh and ready to go. I was a little hungry and almost immediately went back up to the register and ordered some oatmeal too. The store appeared to be slow inside, though I don’t know if it was really being kept busy by the drive thru. During my visit, most of the time there were three partners working, and sometimes four.
One thing I liked about this store is that although the drive-thru must account for a lot of the business, the partners never neglected the lobby. While I was there, the lobby got swept, and tables were wiped down, and it was kept shiny and clean. I stayed about forty minutes, browsing the internet and having coffee and oatmeal. I didn’t tell anyone that I was writing a store review until the very end of my visit, so I am pleased that the good things I saw were not a staged show. I asked a partner how she would describe her own store and she said, “friendly and efficient”. (By the way, I loved that she was wearing reindeer antlers!). That about sums it up. The store IS “friendly and efficient.” Finally it was time for me to go, and Samantha at the register helped me out with some directions to get back on I-5 south.
One funny thing I want to point out about this Starbucks is the restroom. Most Starbucks have paper towels for customers to dry their hands. I have seen Dyson hand dryers in a couple of Starbucks, but I thought this was one of the more industrial hand dryers I had ever seen. I think I’ve seen this style of hand dryers at rest stops! And the bathroom was clean, so I have no complaints, I was just surprised by the industrial dryer.
The upshot of the review is, indeed, “friendly and efficient.”
(The actual date of the visit was December 11, 2010).

I like lamps in the corner of the wall. It is good.
“Caffe VERONA” reminds me of a drive of lively conversation with you. Haha!
I DO like those big comfy chairs!
@Nob and @ Latterose – And here I liked the handdryer in the ladies room. The things that people zone in on in a Starbucks … 😉
@Nob – Verona Bridge Day was SUCH fun! Thank you again.
You are very lucky being in Seattle, they keep the lobbies clean:)
I love that she was wearing antlers, I used to do that when I worked in a flower shop
Those dryers are incredibly powerful, huh? Looking at the photos I realized how much I liked the snowflakes on the windows. I miss them.
Haven’t been around much, so finally getting caught up on the posts. This store also looks cozy, as it seem many stores in the PNW do! I do miss the snowflakes and decor in the stores. The stores look kind of plain now, so I’m hoping they bring back those (red) Valentine cups that they had last year!
What I really love about this place is the stores exterior! Or at least what I see in your first photo…pretty building! Looks like a very cozy starbucks 🙂
I always love reading these kind of reviews about stores with great partners that make you feel welcome. 😀 😀
As @Nob said already…the cozy lamps make you feel like at home in your living room. Really nice!
I saw these dryers in a couple of Bay Area Stores…
Another great store review. I also find the store that has a drive through by me to be very nice and very few people actually know you can sit down inside. The ceilings at this store are high and the design is very welcoming. Sounds like the baristas in this review take pride in their store. I also like that they have the comfy chairs. What kind of music did they play? How far is Everett from Seattle?
This store does strike me mostly as cozy and cheerful. The lamp was defnitely something I don’t remember EVER seeing in a Sbux.
I love those chairs, too…they are quite a few around here. Very comfy and much easier to keep clean.
I rarely go into a drive-thru store but the few times I have, all different ones…..they seemed very confusing to me. I never really felt the focus was enough on the lobby business, altho ‘adequate’.
Speaking of hand dryer, university village store restroom uses Japanese brand hand dryer.
(Of course restroom which I checked is only man’s room. Haha)
Hi Mel,
Nice to see other stores around the US. I can almost smell the coffee in there! 🙂 I’m going to my local Starbucks in Hamburg soon, its so beautiful, two story restored building. I might take a few pictures if you’d like to see it? Think i’m going in 2 weeks. Really can’t wait, already SOOO excited. Haven’t been to a Store in over a month! 🙁
Mel- That is the first Starbucks that I’ve ever seen with a tv in it…is that common in Seatlle or suburbs of Seattle? Also living in Boston, it’s so strange to me to look at a picture of a Starbucks where people aren’t fighting over/waiting for somewhere to sit.
Is that a tv? I thought it was just the monitor showing what song was playing. Also, Melody curious how was your oatmeal? I stopped getting it at SB because I have not yet found any barista that can make it the right way. Too much water, too little water, not enough water, etc.
monitor or tv, I’ve never seen that before. Purple- have you?
Hi Amy! I’ve thought about doing a whole blog post on those LCDs. Starbucks began installing them during the height of their venture into HEAR Music. At one time, they would even play a music video now and then. I think they were originally called the HEAR Music LCD screens. They currently show what song is playing, and sometimes show stock Starbucks videos about coffee farms, or about MSI, or what have you … I really like them. You can always count on knowing what song is being played. They’re in SF and Seattle. The sad thing is that Starbucks “no longer supports” the LCDs and they are slowly disappearing. As stores get their “major remodels” Starbucks design team takes them down, and they don’t go back up. There are no plans to expand them, or replace them. Huge disappointment to me. I’ve discovered music by hearing a song, and looking up at the LCD screen, and thinking, “I didn’t know how much I liked that”. I remember in 2004 (or thereabouts) watching a Nirvana Unplugged video on the Hear Music screen and wanting to buy the video that was selling at Starbucks but I didn’t want to spend the money. Money was tight. Now I wish I had. Brilliant performance.
Amy – the monitors are standard in SB in NJ and I am not sure if they are in MA. I thought I saw one in a Cambridge location. They are nice to have although at times the music is too loud, but I see people checking the monitor to catch the name of the singer or watch the video.
Obviously I went thru the pics too quickly…did not notice the LCD screen. yikes. I’ve never seen one in any store around here, or. actually any Sbux I’ve been in. I’m glad, It’s bad enough to lose the chalkboard menus, and start bringing in those cardboard signage things….. I’d rather not have any LCD screen of any sort, for any reason, in a Sbux where I want to sit… etc. Altho, when you mentioned the music Melody…I would’ve been glad to see what was playing (and way too loudly for any music) when I was in this afternoon. It was THE most disonant, irritating…..I don’t know what? sounds? I’ve almost ever heard. Had it not changed within about 15min., I would’ve just left. I realize music is so subjective…but this could barely be called music, to me. some really bad stuff.
anyway, not in favor of any screens in the Sbux I go to. It’s odd, this store you wrote about has a LAMP, like right out of someone’s home…… looking so ‘cozy’ and then contrast it with this LCD screen. ???
I really enjoy these store tours! First thing that caught my eye was the lamp, have not seen any of the Jersey stores with a lamp. That looks like a cozy little spot to have some coffee and read a book.
Denise – The LCDs are not intrusive. They don’t show t.v. prograaming. It’s just a way to know what song is on. I REALLY like them and have discovered great music from them. I wish they’d expand them but that is not happening. Im on my ipad – sorry sloppy and short.
Many Starbucks in New York have the LCD monitors. All Starbucks that have the monitors broadcast MSNBC coverage of the presidential inauguration.
I used to work at this store! All the employees are hard-working and kind… although the atmosphere was a little too stressful and intense for me. Despite what you saw in the lobby, this is a very high volume store! I’m glad you had a good visit. =)
@Stevie – Hi there! Welcome to the blog! Hope you’ll poke around some more and “like” the Facebook fanpage. It was definitely slow, but as I recall, I think I asked a partner about that and she said it is much busier Mon through Fri. I believe you that it is a high volume store. There isn’t a lot of parking and I bet the drive thru is non stop. Thanks for dropping by my little Starbucks blog. 🙂
